Here’s what the stars have in store for you this week.

Your weekly horoscope is here. And just like that, it’s Capricorn season as the sun moves into this pragmatic earth sign, marking the winter solstice on Sunday. The shortest day of the year is here, as the sun dips to its lowest midday point—you made it! The only way is up, baby. And perhaps that’s why Capricorn is seen as the ambitious water goat, emerging from the depths (of winter), with the fortitude and foresight to scale up, up, up toward its heights during still-distant summer once more. Many religious traditions feature festivals of light with ancient architecture facing the solstice sun. For this reason, we celebrate the rebirth of the sun from its weakest point, with the promise of light, warmth, and life returning once more.

Leo (July 23–August 22)

Happy winter solstice, Leo! You’re a summer sign, so I hope you’re keeping your sunny side up through the chilly months. Make the most of glamorous winterwear, bring in color and sparkle to lift your mood and the mood of others around you. When others smile, you know how much it expands your heart! Capricorn season activates your sphere of work, wellness, and the routines that underpin them, so take a conservative eye to yours. What unsustainable habit can you drop to make room for a more supportive standard practice in your life? It could be upgrading to a better quality coffee brand, a stronger routine, and boundaries around your work or workouts. Or, a plan that takes you from where you are now to where you want to be in both areas by this time next year. Capricorn is about disciplined work, with an ambitious eye on the top of the pile. If that’s where you want to be, explore what that looks and feels like for you. Work out a plan to get there, and be ready to grind. Capricorn isn’t the most glam sign, but it does know how to show up, and so do you. Go for it, Leo!

Virgo (August 23–September 22)

Let the fun begin, Virgo! The winter solstice arrives on Sunday—consider this marker a crack in the ice dividing the descent from the ascent of the sun. We’re going back up, up, up, baby! Activating your sphere of leisure, fun, and creative self-expression, you have plenty of indoor time to work on your opus, perfect your brush stroke, or reinvent the wheel. Capricorn season is here, and for an earth sign like yours, this period is highly supportive of your practical, long-term ambition, no matter what that may be for you. Get into the mood by feeling out what respect, maturity, and ambition mean to you. What they look and feel like for you. Even if you’re working through the holidays, take time out to do what you love, what lights you up and charges your battery. If you enjoy taking on responsibility, duty, and service, then embrace it. If you really need to assert boundaries against ever-needy, less capable dependents, friends, family, or work demands, this is your time to implement them.

Libra (September 23–October 23)

At the winter solstice point on Sunday, take time to assess and focus on your domestic life. The Christmas and holiday season activate your home, family, and roots. It’s a little quieter around the ranch, or more dutiful than you may prefer, so find a place that sits well with you, balanced between your love of light, relational conversation, and responsibility. Since Capricorn season is here, it’s worth addressing the fact that this sign sits at a right angle to your own on the zodiac wheel. That means the sun is in a hard angle, rather tense, pushing you to assert your boundaries, step into an air of authority or maturity, and not just look like you mean business but act on it too. Sometimes, family or those in our inner private realm can erode or disrespect the way we need to be, so assess what that is for you, then train others to treat you well. Capricorn is pragmatic, long-term, and prepared to work. Applied in your life, that could be self-discipline and a work ethic around building your personal security, base, and foundation.

Scorpio (October 24–November 21)

Exploring your local neighbourhood, creating connections in your local community—it’s all part of this winter solstice point on Sunday and through into the ensuing month that is Capricorn season. Duty, responsibility, long-term professional connections, just do your best. Capricorn is a stabilizing influence on your wild emotional inner life while directly supporting your vitality, confidence in your expertise, and leadership. Be sure you let others know your name, ask theirs, scout about for enticing ways to weave into the fabric of your social environment. These days, we tend not to live in villages where we all know each other’s business, and in some ways that’s a relief. But it can make us feel at a loose end, especially when we need others to lean on or we need someone to just smile when they gaze at us with recognition. People are far more open to connecting at this time of year, so make the most of it, and feel that inner bliss expand.

Sagittarius (November 22–December 21)

And that’s a wrap on your annual solar birthday season, Sagittarius! The sun marks the winter solstice and the first day of Capricorn season on Sunday.  Mercury is still traveling through your sign, and Venus is in Sagittarius until Christmas Eve, so it’s a steady change of flavor. As the sign following yours, Capricorn takes your wide-ranging adventures and knowledge gained, creating systems, institutions, and of course, revenue streams. You could stand to borrow from how this practical earth sign finds useful ways to apply your knowledge to benefit humanity. That would mean being a business boss, entrepreneurial, and seeing the practical value in your wisdom, setting it up into a system, and charging for it. No matter your views on the founder of Amazon, Capricorn Jeff Bezos, his business is successful because it meets a practical need and is set up for performance. Find an ethical way to apply some of those winning ways to your own mission, and bring your brand of truth, honesty, and inspiration to others.

Capricorn (December 22–January 19)

Happy birthday season, Capricorn! You wear the solar crown from Sunday, which, as it happens, is also the winter solstice. Get ready for your holiday endurance run, of Christmas (for those who indulge), birthday, Boxing Day and sales, and New Year celebrations. For a somber sign that doesn’t like to party as much as some, you certainly host many opportunities! So you may as well go with it and get those plans, invites, and organizing rolling. Duty is your middle name, after all, and who knows—you may just end up having a good time (don’t tell anyone though).  I jest; however, I’m here to encourage you to formalize these yearly activities into something that bonds and makes a memorable good feeling of connectedness within your friendship circles, community, and family. Christmas is on Thursday, so if you’re doing family, find the silver lining and shift the perspective if anyone gripes.

Aquarius (January 20–February 18)

This week kicks off with a new solar season, fresh pressed on Sunday as the sun hits its lowest point in the midday sky, marking the winter solstice. It’s officially Capricorn season, that old sea goat that precedes your sign, laying the land in prep for your own oncoming annual solar month. Capricorn is an earth sign, a sign of age, wisdom through experience, and maturity that we hope aligns with expertise, status, and inner fortitude. Capricorn climbs the mountain so that you might see with clear mental acuity, in the rarefied air at the top. As a sign of the masses, you’re also paradoxically aristocratic up on your perch! Capricorn season activates your sphere of inner liminal space and dreams. Take enough time out in your winter cabin to contemplate, rest, and digest. Tune into the larger collective consciousness while you’re there.

Pisces (February 19–March 20)

A social yet stoic flavour permeates this week as the sun rolls into conservative earth sign Capricorn on Sunday, marking the winter solstice, followed by Venus midweek. Stabilizing and supporting your sign, you’re in a great position to network, connect with friends, family, and groups you’re associated with. Make sure you round up your squad for holiday celebrations. Since Venus is the planet of pleasure, this is where you meet wonderful opportunities, experiences, and maybe someone special. If you’re single and looking, the best place to rub shoulders with that potential cutie is certainly through friends, out and about. Attend a friend’s family gathering if you’re away from home or don’t have family. Alternatively, invite a friend or colleague to yours if they are at a loose end.
