What’s it like to star in one of Netflix’s most beloved series? Madison Bailey, who plays Kiara in Outer Banks, certainly knows. For starters, you get a loyal fanbase that’s still obsessed with your show three seasons in. You also get opportunities to work with the likes of Fenty Beauty, which is pretty much the closest to finding IRL treasure you can get—especially when you’re filming in the blazing North Carolina sun.
“I’ve been in the sun a lot more than I typically am on a regular summer, so I’m really protecting my skin,” Bailey says of her Outer Banks–inspired skin care journey. In fact, she’s so passionate about SPF that her must-have desert island product is sunscreen.
“One product on a desert island? I’m going to go with the Fenty Skin Hydra Vizor,” Bailey says. “It’s like a moisturizer and an SPF 30 sunscreen in one, so I think that would take care of my two main concerns on a desert island, which are hydration and sun protection.”

Bailey is just as pro-SPF in her everyday life too. “I’ve bumped up SPF and am keeping my skin hydrated, because breaking out during filming is the worst,” she says. As for how she treats on-set breakouts? “I either spot treat it or just let it run its course. I’m a big fan of an extractor, so if it’s possible to do that, I’m doing that. But really, I’m avoiding makeup on my off time, and letting my skin breathe as much as I can.”
Now that Bailey has found a routine that really works—while filming in the humidity of the South, no less—I ask what advice she has for others trying to do the same. “I would say find your priority products. There are some things to never skimp on, like sunscreen, moisturizer, makeup removal,” she says. “Get in the steps that you can is my advice. And keep your products simple if you're traveling and you're going to be on set in a new environment and all of that. Try less new products, and don’t overwhelm your skin.”
Ahead, Madison Bailey shares her tried-and-true skin care regimen for Glamour’s Drop the Routine.
My cleanser
I’m really consistent about taking my makeup off. The new Fenty Skin Melt Awf Cleanser is the first makeup-removing cleanser that actually takes off all my makeup without leaving any traces behind. It’s amazing.
My face mist
I love spritzing Peach & Lily Glass Skin Veil Mist whenever, wherever. On bare skin or over makeup. It just makes my skin glow. Plus, it just feels refreshing.
My sunscreen and moisturizer
Hydration and sun protection are my two big things when it comes to my skin. Fenty Skin Hydra Vizor takes care of both in one, and works really well with makeup, so it’s my go-to product. I use this every day.
My face oil
I like to layer Farmacy Honey Grail Oil with my moisturizer for that extra dose of hydration. Especially at night, and my skin always feels smoother in the morning.
My eye cream
I love this eye cream, especially at night, because I feel like my skin instantly soaks up all that hydration. Plus, I love how it’s not a pot packaging like most eye creams. It’s so much cleaner and easier to use.
My eye patches
I use these eye patches in the morning to depuff or if I’m prepping for a shoot or event. They make me look brighter and more awake.
My lip mask
This lip mask seriously hydrates my lips. I use it every night before bed and also before I apply lipstick to blur any lines, and make my lips look smooth and full. When I’m on set or traveling, this is with me all the time.
My tools
I really have upped my skin care routine since the pandemic and look at it as real me time. I like to use this tool when I have the time in the morning or before bed to depuff my face and neck. It also just feels great.
My body care
I’m really into making sure my skin is hydrated all over. I always apply this right after the shower to lock in that moisture. I love that it’s super nourishing but doesn’t leave my skin feeling greasy.
