I never step out the door without jewelry, which is why I know there’s an art to stacking on pieces. It took time and experience to learn how to wear multiple rings to look sleek and interesting, but I also spoke to jewelry experts for tips on where to start. And because I’m not a gatekeeper, I’m sharing their advice with you too.
According to them, the key is to go with your unique vibe, play with textures and sizes, and find the balance between both your hands. It helps to also have a vision. For example, I always consider my outfit or start with a bold statement piece. Sometimes, that may just mean I’m building around my Oura ring and then stacking from there.
Below is everything you need to know on how to wear multiple rings, according to jewelry experts. Pro tip: Jot down your ring size in your Notes app for convenient jewelry shopping. For the longest time, I didn’t know my pinky size and skipped out on layering rings there. Learn from my mistake: You can easily measure it with a ring sizer or DIY with a white paper and pen.

How to wear rings on multiple fingers
Start building your ring stack with a couple of slim bands you can wear every day. They’re “the backbone of a good stack,” says Xenia Lally, fashion director at Mejuri. “Once you’ve got that down, you can add texture (like braided bands), play with different shapes (like domes), or bring in a statement ring to make it feel more like you.”
Once you have your base, you can layer in something bolder: a signet, colorful gemstone rings, pearl rings, birthstone rings, sculptural pieces, or even watch rings, which are trending right now. (My personal favorite is Fossil’s gold and green one.) Stack them on as many fingers as you feel comfortable. Personally, I don’t like having my index finger and middle finger with too many rings, so I only have rings on one or the other.
“Some people love a full-hand moment, others just pick one or two fingers,” says Lally. “There’s really no rule when it comes to styling jewelry—you can start small and build as you go. I tend to stick to the stack with two or three fingers as I often work with my hands and it’s the most comfortable for me.”
Mix metals, stones, enamels, opals, and different shapes and sizes. I like to combine rings with a lot of texture so that it almost feels like a game of Tetris on my fingers.
“The key to a dynamic ring stack is balance,” says Anni Jürgenson, lead jewelry designer at Ana Luisa. “Play with different scales and textures—pair sparkly, gemstone-studded pieces with thinner bands to offset it. And don’t be afraid to mix metals.”
Adds Lally, “Yellow gold next to silver or white gold creates such nice contrast. It’s all about styling them across your hand so it looks balanced.”
If you’re going for a maximalist look, have a statement ring take center stage and pair it with slimmer bands. If you’re not sure where to start, Lally recommends Mejuri’s Puzzle Stacker rings to mix multiple gemstones on one finger.
If you have an engagement ring or a wedding band, then you’ll want those to be your centerpieces. “Add a slim band above or below to frame them, or maybe a personalized band, like a birthstone, so the stack feels meaningful,” says Lally.
Stacking rings won’t damage them, but be careful if you have any sharp edges that could scratch stones or metals. Diamonds will scratch other diamonds. Give your rings a gentle cleaning every now and then with soap and water, and store them separately when you’re not wearing them. “Don’t be afraid to rotate pieces in and out—it keeps your stack fresh and your rings in good shape,” says Lally.
And remember, it might take some time to build your stack, so be patient. Some of my favorite ring finds have been from my travels (like this ergonomic ring from a studio in Mexico City).
